Pavana Dam Pune

Pavana Dam Pune
The Pavana Dam constructed across the Pavana River has shaped Pavana Lake. Pavana Lake is an artificial lake, which enables tourists to enjoy an amazing view of Tunga, Lohagad and Tikona Forts. Pavana Lake is located near Pavananagar in Kamshet. It is a popular picnic spot for tourist from Pune, Lonavala & Mumbai. This is a pleasant place to spend some time with family and friends. The backwaters of this dam offer a delightful view. Tourist can enjoy various adventurous activities at this place like boating.

Distance from Mumbai: 110 Kilometers.
Distance from Pune: 70 Kilometers.
Distance from Lonavala – Khandala: 26 Kilometers.

The road from Kamshet to Pavana Dam is small road and not in very good condition. But this route is quite picturesque throughout. On the way one can see signs for Bedse caves which is just 4-5 kms off this route. There is not much options for food or water here. Once you cross the underpass for Expressway, take the right turn at Paud road junction. The dam is visible from the main road itself, but to get view off lake once must travel a bit ahead on the road which leads to Lohgad. This is the same route that will take you to Lonavala.

There are not many options for food that I could spot. On the way I came across Lohgad Resort and Boating club. They offer decent food. Tried the boating here, was quite good. They charge Rs.300 for scooter ride, and Rs.150 per head for motorboat. They do have nice speed boat but the charge was Rs.1200 for 4 person.

Oh yes I forget to mention about, if in case you want to stay there, you can call to Pavana Boat Club. They have their cottage to the other end of the dam. They will carry you by Boat to their cottages on the bank of backwater of Pavana dam and your meal arrangement will be done at your stay location. You need not to worry about anything. On second day boat will come at your cottages to pick you up.

Sinhagad Fort

Sinhagad Fort is located 4300 feet above sea level, on the Sahyadri Hills. It is a strategic fort, carefully selected for its proximity to the settlement of Pune, allowing control over important trade routes and offering protection behind its safe walls in times of need. Originally called Kondana, it was renamed the Lion Fort in honour of Shivaji’s trusted aide Tanaji Malusare who lost his life in a daring raid on the fort.

The summer months (March-June) are too hot to visit Sinhagad, but all other seasons offer great opportunities for a day outdoors. In September-October just after the rains, the hills are carpeted in green, and very scenic. From November through February, the craggy black rock contrasts beautifully with yellow hay and the weather is simply perfect. The monsoon season begins in June, and it is then that the Sahyadris become truly magical, with beautiful waterfalls and lush foliage. Trekkers from Mumbai and Pune head for the Sahyadris to see the hills come alive in the rains.

Panshet is a pleasant tranquil lake created in the 1950’s by the building of a dam. It supplies drinking water to Pune, and is a popular getaway for residents of Pune.
The fort forms an important part of training received by cadets at the nearby National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla. These cadets can be seen attempting hikes and runs from NDA to Sinhagad in their complete battle gear in order to improve their stamina and prepare them for battle.

Also present inside the fort is a TV tower for transmitting broadcasting signals.

The fort opens at 9:00 am and accepts its last visitors at 4:00 pm.
